Campus Asia is a study abroad program founded through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s (MEXT) INTER-UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE PROJECT, which aims to nurture globally-oriented talent in Asia and to encourage exchanges between universities. Launched at the Japan-China-Korea Trilateral Summit in 2009 as part of an agreement between the three countries to engage in high-quality inter-university exchanges, since 2021 the project has expanded the forum for exchange to include ASEAN countries.Likewise, this study abroad program led by Waseda University will nurture talent (social innovators) who are capable of effecting positive social change throughout the diversity of Asian societies with an eye toward the post-COVID era. Participating students can study abroad at Peking University (China), Korea University (South Korea), and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), all prestigious Asian universities, for six months or one year. Available courses cover a wide range of subjects in the social sciences, including politics, economics, law, business, and international relations, which together nurture cultural intelligence that supersedes borders and civilizations, all while incorporating project-based learning on social and other issues. As a general rule, courses are taught in English.
Through this program, students will encounter compatriots from all over the world with the like-minded ambition of “Asia for all.” Every summer during the “Social Innovation Forum,” students from each country and university travel to partner universities and spend nearly a week deepening discussions with each other in person. This program also extends beyond the locations and durations of study to include online communities in Asia.
Students who participate in this program and meet the prescribed requirements will be issued a certificate of completion. Another attractive feature of this program is subsidies for travel and accommodation expenses in some cases.
Among Waseda University’s many study abroad programs, this one stands outs. We therefore look forward to the participation of any student who aspires to become a leader of a new era.
