Diverse Study Abroad Programs

Participation in medium- and long-term study abroad programs at partner universities

Students study abroad at the partner universities of Peking University, Korea University, and Nanyang Technological University for six months or one year.
Based on the exchange program agreement, as a general rule, tuition fees during the study abroad period are collected as Waseda University tuition, whereby tuition fees for partner universities are NOT collected.
※Students are required to cover their own study abroad preparation expenses, travel expenses, living expenses, room and board, and overseas travel insurance, among others, but are eligible to receive a monthly stipend if they meet certain conditions (this scholarship is available to those who have Japanese citizenship or are permitted to reside permanently in Japan, including special permanent residents).
Credits earned while studying abroad may be counted towards graduation based on the rules of the faculty to which the student belongs.

Participation in the Social Innovation Forum held each summer

For one week during the summer vacation each year, students and faculty from the partner universities gather at one of the universities to discuss, make presentations on, and deepen exchanges regarding common social issues.
The research results of participants at the Forum are also expected to be released publicly.
Field trips and excursions are also planned as part of the Forum.
※The university plans to provide assistance for travel and accommodation expenses to participating students.

This program goes beyond simply offering courses and cultural experiences at the respective study abroad destinations. Specifically, it aims to create in-person forums for exchange where young people who will change the direction of Asian society for the better going forward can come together.

Courses offered jointly with the partner universities

This program offers classes held jointly with Peking University, Korea University, and Nanyang Technological University.
By connecting similarly themed courses online, students from partner universities are able to learn and interact with each other during class while taking Waseda University courses.
This approach makes the most of the respective advantages of universities in Asia where the impact of different time zones is limited, thereby enabling a study abroad experience without leaving Japan.
